Libbey Glass Project
Step back in time with us…to 1995 at the Libbey Glass Plant.
In 1995, we were contracted by Libbey Glass to provide an Integrated Case Handling and Palletizing System. We designed and installed a comprehensive end-of-line automation system to streamline the transition from production packaging to warehouse storage. This project replaced manual handling with a high-capacity conveyance and sorting solution, significantly increasing throughput and palletizing accuracy.
The project consisted of five key components:
1.    The successful integration of disparate packing lines into a single flow toward the warehouse.
2.    A mezzanine installed to house the primary sorting operation. Cases were directed into specific accumulation lanes via a sliding shoe sorter.
3.    Three distinct palletizing cells designed to handle a variety of glass product dimensions.
4.    Conveyance of loaded pallets through a dedicated QA Station for final inspection and procession to an automatic stretch wrapper.
5. Finished, wrapped pallets staged on a discharge conveyor for efficient forklift extraction and final warehouse placement.
We were reminded of this project with the recent news of the demolition of the former Libbey Glass site. As we reflect on our past success there, we are emboldened by the prospect of a new site and company moving in, and we look forward to what the future may bring.
